'MARes will continue the process initiated in the 2009 and 2010 Researchers’ Night; improving the image the public eye has of researchers by giving them the opportunity to come together in a festive atmosphere. The researchers will present their work and themselves through a number of interesting and fun activities. The activities, targeting the family as a whole will include: 2 European Corners (one for children); An interactive Play for kids; Award Ceremony; a party for children and one for adults; Exhibition of researchers work and a Concert. Researchers will be present during each activity. These activities will be integrated in a longer lasting event – The National IT Fair.
The overall objective of the MARes project is to bridge the gap between researchers and the public, to address the above issues. This will be achieved through a set of activities aimed at: • Improving public perception of the role of researchers in our everyday lives; Increasing the value that society places on the work and lives of researchers; combating stereotypical images of researchers and science; demonstrating that a career in research is rewarding; and showing that researchers as other professionals are ordinary people.
The aim of MARes is to provide the public with an opportunity to understand what goes on in the life and career of a researcher. What better way to do this than by giving the public the opportunity to communicate with the researchers themselves?'
