 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'The GOETHE INTERNATIONAL POSTDOC (GO-IN) PROGRAMME will comprise 20 postdoc fellowships which will be hosted in one of seven key research areas at Goethe University. The programme focuses on incoming mobility and addresses junior researchers from all nationalities who have been awarded a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification not earlier than four years before the start of the postdoctoral research grant being applied for. The fellowships will last 12-24 months according to the research project the fellow plans to execute at Goethe University. For the time of the fellowship the fellows will receive an employment contract according to the conditions of the labour agreement of Goethe University. This will cover social security and payments of social benefits such as a contribution to pension funds and health insurance. The programme emphasizes equal opportunities and strongly encourages the application of junior scientists who want to resume their academic career which has been interrupted because of familial reasons. The programme runs an open, merit-based competition for the applying fellows and is founded on international peer-review. Initially, the GO-IN PROGRAMME focuses on seven key research areas of the university which are selected based on their capacities and international recognition. Fellows can choose the topic and supervisor for their research project freely from these seven topics. The programme provides added value for both, the recruited postdocs and Goethe University: the postdocs will have the opportunity to gain essential international experience during a crucial stage of their career and research at Goethe University benefits from scientists at their most creative stage of their academic development.'

Introduzione (Teaser)

Postdocs at Goethe University are getting an opportunity to gain essential international experience during the most crucial stage of their career.

Descrizione progetto (Article)

Researchers who are mobile are in need of assistance during their fellowships. The project 'Goethe international post doc programme' (GO-IN) is helping junior researchers of all nationalities who have between 4 and 10years of research experience before applying for their postdoctoral research grant.

Fellows receive an employment contract during their 12-14-month stay at Goethe University. The contract is in line with national regulations. Social security as well as contribution to pension funds is covered. The programme gives equal opportunity and holds an open, merit-based competition that operates according to an international peer review. It focuses on key research areas that are based on capacities and international recognition.

Thus far in the project, a webpage is online and 6 out of 25 young science fellows have been employed from 15 countries. Most of the fellows have enrolled in German language courses on offer. They can also participate in international conferences and profit from education and experience.

The project has received positive evaluations to date and will provide added value for both the postdocs and Goethe University.
