 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'This project will set up the EURAXESS service network in the Faroe Islands, and include the national services in the context of the broader European service network. The overall goal is to set up a national service network that offers first class mobility guidance to researchers wanting to work in the Faroe Islands. This will be accomplished through a number of initiatives that collectively work towards this goal. The relevant persons and institutions will be engaged to solve possible legislative issues and provide the best knowledge base for the services. Two Service Centres will be established of which one is the Faroese Bridgehead Organisation. Together the centres will provide all the necessary tools for the EURAXESS services including training of staff and the publication and continuous running of the Faroese EURAXESS portal.'

Introduzione (Teaser)

An EU team brought the EURAXESS mobility network to the Faroe Islands. Local Contact Points (LCPs) were established at research and other agencies, with the project having also organised training and published information about living on the Islands.

Descrizione progetto (Article)

The Faroe Islands are physically situated between Norway and Iceland, north of Scotland, and politically the archipelago is an autonomous part of Denmark. EURAXESS is a European information service supporting the mobility of researchers.

With the support of EU funding, the project 'EURAXESS service network Faroe Islands' (http://www.euraxess.fo (ESNFO)) established a network of mobility centres, plus LCPs at research institutions and public authorities. Additionally, the project has contributed to policymaking at national and European levels. ESNFO operated for two years to the end of 2014.

The Faroese Bridgehead Organisation was established at the Faroese Research Council in January 2013. The organisation was responsible for coordinating the mobility network with other EURAXESS members. A management team was established, after which a Project Initiation Document was published. A Steering Group was also formed, first meeting in February 2013.

By the end of March 2013, LCPs had been appointed at nine research organisations, in addition to the private sector and several government agencies. The project established communication channels with a variety of government agencies having an interest in mobility issues. From these and other agencies, information about living and working on the Faroe Islands was gathered and published on the Faroese EURAXESS web portal.

The team prepared for Help Desk activities. The project organised two workshops on mobility issues for staff of the service centres, plus two training seminars for LCPs. Instructions to relevant staff members were compiled as a handbook, also published on the web portal. Mobility information for incoming researchers was similarly published as a Mobility Guide.

ESNFO brought the Faroe Islands into the EURAXESS network, and assisted the its authorities in responding to queries about researcher mobility. The network also functioned as an interface with policymakers.
