 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

ECOPACK project targets the supply chain of glass containers for the pharmaceutical industry. Its main objective is transferring the glass containers washing and sterilization processing steps from the pharmaceutical companies to the glass primary package manufacturers. The pharmaceutical company is therefore left with the only filling and final capping phases. The profound innovation brought about by the Project is supported by the development of a novel sterile bigbag packaging system (STERI BIBAG), that will allow to maintain the container sterility from the producer site to the customer site; the STERI BIGBAG can be equipped with an all-plastic transfer port, with a new design, for the direct interfacing and transfer of the packaging to the sterile working areas. The application of the new production and supply chain will allow to achieve two specific objectives: - Environmental impact reduction. The pharmaceutical company will be able to eliminate completely entire washing and sterilization lines, that are high-energy consuming machineries (water, electricity). The washing and sterilization steps will be instead performed at the manufacturers site, employing plants that are already installed and in use, with a minimal increase in their energy usage. The elimination of entire lines of heavy machineries has to be considered also from the point of view of the elimination of their maintenance and disposal (steel, aluminium, plastic, refractory materials), as they often involve the handling of dangerous and toxic components. - Cost reduction. The elimination of the installation, maintenance, operating and disposal costs for the washing and sterilization lines will directly benefit the pharmaceutical companies.
