 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'Energy efficiency policies foster innovation in lighting industry also driven by new, low energy consumption light emitting sources (LEDs). In this project we demonstrate that energy efficiency can be successfully combined to innovative lighting design and generate architectural contexts integrating illumination into spaces. On the other hand, these technologies must be carefully applied to avoid effects such as visual discomfort. In this scenario, CoeLux® enters as a game changer technology, since it demonstrates how LEDs might faithfully reproduce the true comfortable light of the outdoor. In so doing, the appearance and the illumination capacity of combined sky and sun light are reproduced. Spectators will consequently enjoy an open-air experience also indoor and in underground spaces. DeepLite proposes three demonstrations of CoeLux® capacities in three underground environments, i.e. in a historic building, a new subway line and an international airport, where architecture is tailored to bring the true landscape experience indoor.'

Introduzione (Teaser)

An EU-funded project intends to carve a powerful market debut for a revolutionary concept for artificial illumination mimicking daylight in indoor living and working spaces.

Descrizione progetto (Article)

The quality of artificial illumination has become a major concern for living and working spaces without many windows granting the comfort of visual contact with the external environment. The situation is destined to aggravate in the future, as a result of the massive replacement of incandescent lights by energy-saving fluorescent lamps and light-emitting diodes.

CoeLux is an optical system based on nanotechnology that artificially reproduces natural light and the visual appearance of the Sun and sky. It was developed within the EU-funded COELUX project. This new lighting technology recreates the same atmospheric effects that produce the all-colour variety in sunlight and the blue tinge of diffused skylight.

The 'DeepLite - Light from the sky in underground space' (http://www.deeplite.eu/ (DEEPLITE)) project was initiated to demonstrate the capabilities of CoeLux in different indoor environments. The CoeLux technology could have a particularly high impact in historic buildings, subways and international airports. With the financial support of the EU, the project partners can present its applications to the broad public.

Visitors to the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia had the opportunity to see a CoeLux ceiling with openings leading up to a 'blue sky'. Designed for the Z! Zingonia Mon Amour exhibit, this system shined light with blue-toned shadows on the setting. In addition, the first permanent demonstration room of CoeLux technology has been opened in London at the Ideaworks Experience Centre.

Several presentation talks, explaining how the new lighting technology works and its multitude applications and benefits, have been given by the project partners. Requests for further information regarding the different CoeLux solutions have, subsequently, been received every day and from all over the world.
