'As in the successful RN projects 2005, 2006 and 2007 in Norway, the “Researchers’ Night 2008 in Norway” is planned as a nation-wide promotion effort in line with the objectives of the EU FP7 “People” Work Programme and the call FP7-PEOPLE-NIGHT-2008, organised as add-on to the “Forskningsdagene” (Norway’s National Science Week 19.-28. Sept 2008), which has 1000 events arranged by 200 local representatives all over Norway, coordinated by the Research Council of Norway (RCN). The local organisers have agreed in this coordinated RCN proposal from Norway, which includes 15 proposed subcontracted local events selected after national competition. Local and RCN co-financing are substantial. Targeting the large public (kids, teenagers, adults and parents, teachers, entrepreneurs), media and politicians we will promote the contribution of research and researchers to the society at large – what the researchers do, and can do for you; how researchers contribute to creation of new knowledge, innovation and the establishing of knowledge-based jobs and enterprises, thus improving competitiveness and economic growth of the society - showing the researchers’ passion for research, how interesting a researcher career may be, and that “researchers are among us” as ordinary people. Settings include ”hands-on” experiments, science cafés, and examples from ”real science”. Some projects aim at mass participation - and all seek mass communication of the RN ideas. We will copy the “RN 2007” marketing and press coverage which reached some 3.35 mill and 8 million people, respectively. A photograph competition and a European Corner stand will be prepared at Oslo Central Station. Industrial partners are engaged in several of the subcontracted events. A newspaper inlets in nation-wide newspapers (~325.000 copies), advertisements, brochures, emails, and web-site information on www.rcn.no, www.forskning.no, www.forskningsdagene.no , www.nysgjerriper.no and www.eracareers.no will be prepared.'
