'Researchers’ Night in Sweden, ForskarFredag, FF (Research Friday) will consist of events taking place in nine towns and cities throughout Sweden on 28th September 2007. FF will be coordinated by Vetenskap & Allmänhet, VA. Participants include universities, science discovery centres, a regional council, a competence development agency and the Swedish Research Council. The project is facilitated by the participants’ extensive links with industry and academia. The primary objective of FF is to provide a forum for the public and researchers to meet and communicate face-to-face. Innovative and original hands-on activities in informal and festive environments will be arranged at each FF event. The aim is for fun, relaxed actions and engaging dialogues that will attract the broad public, especially those not specifically interested in research. The importance of international cooperation will be emphasised, thus giving a sense of Sweden as part of the European scientific community, and explaining how this benefits us all. The impact on the public at large will be significant since the number of visitors is estimated to be at least 8 900. Those unable to attend the venues will be able to follow some of the activities through a web cast. Live media reports and news items are also expected to cover the day’s events. Furthermore, children aged 6-18 will be invited to take part in a national drawing competition. Local event schemes will vary, but all will have a common message: research is fun and exciting and influences everyone’s day-to-day life. To ensure maximum visibility, an awareness strategy will be implemented. Unanimous objectives, similarity of contents as well as a website providing all the necessary information will be common denominators of FF. In short, FF will entertain the public and deliver the message that researchers are among us throughout Europe.'
