 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'The objective of “HUMANITIES ROCK!” is to bring researchers of Humanities and Social Sciences closer to the public at large, enhancing their role in the mainstream society, and to present research as an exciting and attractive endeavour. The Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, which celebrates 90 years of its existence this year, is the most important unit of research in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Slovenia. It has organised many public events and activities for support of public understanding of research in Humanities and Social Sciences (e.g., the so-called cultural days, occasional events related to public holidays and festivities, etc.). Despite well-established communication with the public in the past, the humanities are becoming marginalized, if not neglected, not only in the more and more commercialized public space, but as well within the research area. This recent marginalization is partly a consequence of the misperception of the researchers’ professional life in the field of humanities. With the main event on the 25th of September in 2009, the organizers are aiming to improve the perception and reputation of research in public. The event will carefully target the most vital and important parts of the public: children and youth, families and ageing people. The preceding awareness campaign will comprise the public tender for posters and establishment of personal contacts with media representatives. The researchers will be the stars of the night, but at the same time they will be presented on stage as ordinary people. The “HUMANITIES ROCK!” will offer many different and attractive events and activities in Ljubljana for everyone, children and schoolchildren, families and adults. The proposed activities are various presentations, excursions and short trips, workshops, role-playing games; an exhibition, conference, discussions and presentations; events on the street and experiments; a multimedia performance; a film festival, and the final.'
