'ETH Zurich applies for co-funding of its newly established ETH Fellowship program after it has been financed exclusively by ETH’s internal resources in a pilot phase. The program supports incoming fellowships for postdoctoral researchers on a competitive basis. The ETH Fellowship program aims at high-potential individuals primarily interested in following an academic career. Awardees will be offered an ETH employment contract with a standard postdoctoral salary for a maximum of two years. ETH Fellows will be also entitled to an annual individual travel and consumable budget and are expected to take part in the teaching activities of their host group. Furthermore, fellows are encouraged to apply for additional competitive funding. The program is open for all applicants who have obtained an earned doctorate from an institution other than ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich within 2 years of the date of application. The two-year rule can be waived in case of a demonstrated career break. Applications are to be made jointly by the candidate and their host, who must be an ETH Professor and who will act as a supporter and mentor of the fellow. No thematic restrictions apply and, therefore, all research topics of interest to ETH Zurich are eligible for funding. Proposals will be judged primarily on the basis of scientific merit and the applicant’s track record by the ETH Research Commission and external reviewers. The ETH Fellowship program offers an excellent opportunity for experienced researchers to acquire new skills and competencies boosting their careers and helping to attain an independent senior position. Support by COFUND together with an increase of ETH’s own contribution will enable to double the number of trans-national fellowships. This will significantly enhance the incoming mobility of advanced researchers from the EU States, Associated or Third countries to Switzerland.'
