 Project objective

In Decon, we develop and produce quality accessories for wheelchairs. We do it in a neat and innovative way that allows adaptability and accessibility. Simply put, one can say that our passion is to create the conditions for freedom for people with disabilities.

Today, 10 to 15% of the world’s population lives with disabilities . For many of them, the wheelchair is one of the most useful assistive devices for enhancing personal mobility. Recent studies indicate that about 1% of world population, i.e. circa 75 million people, suffer from motor disabilities requiring the use of a wheelchair.

This project is about our novel, flexible and effective solution – E-Axle. E-Axle is an electrical add-on drive system for manual wheelchairs that will give the user assisting power when using the wheelchair. Our solution is encapsulated in a mobile, motorised rear axle powering a custom-designed wheel hub, which comes in a set with additional units attachable to the user’s wheelchair. E-Axle is a highly flexible solution apt for installation to virtually any manual wheelchair available on the market. The system can be quickly and easily mounted underneath the seat of a wheelchair. Thanks to the telescope architecture, it fits chairs of any width, including both rigid and folding chairs. It is removable with a simple handgrip, allowing it to be transported separately from the wheelchair or used interchangeably with other wheelchairs. Moreover, the axle is fully programmable, further increasing product’s flexibility and creating the opportunity to fit the personal needs of specific end-users.

Through this Phase 1 project, we want to further develop and optimise our business plan that will guide further commercialisation efforts to take Decon Wheel AB to a new level of competitiveness and growth. Most importantly, however, it will have an incredibly positive impact on the quality of life of millions of disabled people worldwide.
