Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)
'The present proposal fills the gap existing in the European market concerning fire stopping garage doors capable of providing high speed closure, together with sensors and components for fire sttoping capabilities at an affordable price. These types of doors and sensors (light barriers and contact bands) have not been completely developed yet, fact that contributes to the creation of new business opportunities in the field of security, especially considering the important benefits for a wide range of applications (transport, construction…) offering higher security and reducing the risk under fire accidents. The project starting point is based on two clear objectives: on the one side, achieve the capability to safe human lives in case of fire accidents, its most important benefit, and therefore, a priceless aspect that constitutes the main goal of the project; On the other side, the market opportunity can bring important economic benefits apart from the stronger position (R&D, patents, innovation) that can be reached by the European companies in the field of industrial security. All over the project, the key issues will be the reduction of the maintenance costs (increasing the cost-efficiency), improving thermal and sound insulation (enhancing the product competitiveness) and providing solutions complying with the most strict safety and environment preventing standards (all materials will be carefully selected in order to ensure environmental friendliness even at high temperatures). The development of such complex products can only be done if the key components are capable of providing a faster and more reliable performance under extreme conditions that cannot be found in the current market. For that reason, the project is planned at the European level forming a consortium able to meet the project needs.'

European researchers have developed a new fire door to reduce the spread of fire between areas. Its fast-closing operation will extend evacuation time and save human lives when a fire breaks out.
