'The eBEREA aims to set up a thematic joint exchange programme dedicated to advance research and higher education in the fields of electronic business (eBusiness) in EU and China. The programme will reinforce existing research collaboration through seconding and hosting researchers. The aim is to actively transfer knowledge with a view to generating strategic impacts in the thematic research area as well as developing sustainable collaboration between EU and China in research and in education. The thematic focus of this exchange programme is electronic business, more specifically business modelling and design; related financial services for consumers and citizens; and the institutional arrangements such as regulation and trust enhancing mechanisms on advocating the aforementioned topics for prospering eSociety. In China, electronic commerce/business is one of the key areas in long-term development of science and technology (S&T). Its importance is continuously increasing and the challenges and emergent issues in codes of conduct, financing, and legislation are recognised. Therefore the S&T responsible researchers in the fields of eBusiness in China are keen to exchange knowledge with their colleagues in Europe. For Europe, the research collaboration with China provides a new opportunity to study eBusiness of high volumes and high growth rates: the largest and busiest eBusiness sites in the world are Chinese. The decisions made by Chinese authorities and economic players regarding regulation and trust enhancing mechanisms are of global importance and crucial to the development of global eBusiness environment. eBEREA cooperation with the key developers of Chinese eBusiness and financial education gives an opportunity for the European partners to influence the development of eBusiness research and practises in China also in long term. The eBEREA exchange programme is implemented by a network of five EU universities and three universities in China.'
An important benefit to implementing electronic business (eBusiness) is the streamlining of business processes that facilitates finding new markets. The many advantages include quicker and easier communications, strengthened marketing capabilities, and websites providing information 24/7 to existing and potential customers.
Implemented by the eBusiness Education and Research Network for Euro-Asian Collaboration (eBEREA), the EU-funded project 'The eBusiness research by Euro-Asian exchange programme' (http://www.eberea.org (EBEREA)) was supported by the EU Marie Curie International Research Staff Exchange Scheme (IRSES).
The project advanced research and higher education in the field of eBusiness, and developed sustainable collaboration between eBusiness researchers in China and the EU. Work paid special attention to financial services for consumers and citizens while focusing on business modelling and design. The team also studied regulatory issues and trust-enhancing mechanisms.
Already successful research cooperation between partner universities and between individual researchers was reinforced and strengthened. During the project, the Network doubled in size and now includes 120 researchers. The intensified and expanded collaboration covers 14 universities in China and Europe. The analysis of research and more information on the Network can be found on the project website.
During the four-year project, the researchers visited other EBEREA universities frequently, amounting to 202 research exchange months. Experienced researchers did half of the visits. The project involved four countries and a network of eight universities. The Network's permanent status in eBusiness collaboration continues the mission to advance research and higher education.
