REHO will revolutionize the market of rehabilitation with the first robotic system composed by an active electropneumatic exoskeleton for lower limbs exercises in different operational conditions (on the ground or fully unloaded) able to entirely stimulate a proper motor cortex activation, re-establishing walking functions in brain-damaged patients. REHO system is designed for the rehabilitation of patients with clinical problems such as hemiplegia, tetraparesis and hemiparesis, as well as those who have suffered strokes, ischemias or cerebral hemorrhages. Stroke is the first leading cause of disability in Italy (196.000 patients every year) and the second leading cause in Europe. In the EU27 countries, the annual economic cost of stroke is an estimated €27 billion. The market for robotic rehabilitation is currently growing strongly with a CAGR estimated at 24% in 2016-2020, with the segment of lower limb rehabilitation robots expected to reach $ 2.1 billion in 2020. REHO main advantages: i. it is applicable to many clinical situations, ii. it offers a very good wearability and minimal invasiveness, iii. it can be used for both suspended and over ground walking, iv. its structure is innovative and light, v. it is safe and comfortable thanks to pneumatic actuators, vi. it provides ankle joint actuation, essential for patient’s motor cortex activation, vii. it includes a versatile hardware and software with user-friendly graphical interface and easy-to-use emergency controls for operator and patient, viii. it is an affordable “all in one” solution. Even though some potential competitors do exist, they are suppliers of systems featuring lower technical performances (expensive, heavy, large and are blocking the free movements of the patient) as well as higher operational costs. For these reasons there is the need to introduce an automated system like REHO to motivate patients, dramatically improving their motor abilities.
