'The University of Freiburg, one of Germany’s leading research-oriented universities, offers a new fellowship programme (FRIAS COFUND Fellowship Programme, FCFP) with up to 22 fellows (both incoming and reintegration) spending twelve to 24 months working on their own research project at the university’s research college, the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). The programme comprises one scheme directed at junior researchers and one scheme directed at senior researchers. The first fellowships starting in fall of year 2 will be announced in a call published fall of year 1 followed by another three yearly calls (M9, M21 and M33). Since its inauguration in 2008, more than 300 fellows have stayed at FRIAS. The institute thus provides the necessary expertise as well as resources to guarantee excellent research conditions, training opportunities and practical support. FRIAS is well equipped to run a merit-based, internationally oriented, peer-review selection procedure. The FCFP addresses researchers from all disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, medicine and engineering. Fellows will be connected with larger research projects and centres at the university. They will also be part of a diverse and academically inspiring community of fellows at FRIAS. The FCFP will positively contribute to the aims of the EU People Programme: fellowships offer great support for innovative projects, they successfully support research careers and they help to establish long-term collaborations, thus enabling university-based research to reach a critical mass of expertise in a European context.'
