 Obiettivo del progetto (Objective)

'The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) was the first national department to initiate research in its field. Founded in 1977, MBG rapidly established a reputation for excellence in research on human genetic disease and in the past significantly contributed to the education of many successful scientists pursuing science on national and international levels. In the course of recent years research topics at MBG further developed and now focus particularly on subjects of neurodegenerative and rare disease, developmental neurobiology and cancer. It is aspiring to overcome present deficiencies, to transform into a relay for spreading technical and scientific know-how and to become a solid collaboration partner to European institutions. With its coherent action plan, MBG aims to create strategic partnerships with established ERA institutions while simultaneously developing its human and technical resources. Critical components of this approach include a seminar series “FP-7 BRIDGE: Advances in Molecular Biology” to increase intellectual exchange, a workshop program “Istanbul: Ideas and Initiatives” to meet and exchange with prospective collaborators, the recruitment of faculty , post-docs and technical specialists, who will transfer and develop new technologies. With the acquisition of new equipment, MBG will restructure its existing infrastructure into manger operated core facilities, which will allow MBG to take new, yet necessary, research directions, thereby enhancing MBG’s and regional stakeholders’ capacities to perform and exploit efficient high quality research. Dissemination and added-value of MBG capacities will be accomplished via a dedicated web site, advertisement of MBG research in media, and intellectual incorporation of national programs. With the requested support, MBG has the potential to rapidly develop its role as a regional leader, to become a center of excellence and to contribute to the ERA at the forefront of discoveries.'
